My opinions on my own eVentures + Random Tips for Website Publishers.

Posted on 01 February 2006 by Lord Brar

So, what have I been upto for last two days? Well, it was one of those month end self introspection, business review and future planning sessions for myself.

While I would not get to self introspection, as it’s something private, but I would want to talk a bit about my business review and future planning as it may give you some tips for your own business. :)

Most of you might know that I am basically an investor and venture capitalist (the second part may be unknown to most as I am still not big-time into it; but hey, I am still testing the waters and you do start small). However, above everything else - I am an entrepreneur.

I don’t really practice what I preach but rather preach what I practice. The reason I told everyone to think big is because I myself think big — be it my life, my business or my investments.

The same goes for my domain names too. I own about 150 of them and have big plans for nearly all of them. But to be realistic, it is not possible for me to implement these ideas without technical assistance and some time on hand. Most of these domains already have some sort of content on them and make some moolah now and then.

But doing something just for the sake of doing it is not what my aim is. My aim here is to maximize my profits — by either developing and running sites or investing into something else.

After some time balance calculation I realized that managing technical and management aspect of hundreds of mini sites was taking wayyy too much energy. And, just 20% of my sites were making 80% of my money. Time to focus on just these 20% sites. ;)

I won’t be really shutting down these other sites that I have but rather halt any effort that I am putting into them. I may sell them if I get an offer worth considering or I may develop them sometime in future when I have more resources to do so — but as of today, they are frozen.

I have also identified four sites that I will be putting in my most effort (for certain reasons, I don’t disclose the URLs of all my sites. There are just two I can post here. ;)) :
1. StreetLessons.com — Yes, this site is a commercial venture of mine and I intend to run it like one. Got some suggestions about how I can make this site better and more useful for you? Don’t forget to eMail them to lord@lordbrar.com. I am all ears.

2. GrowMyMoney.org — GrowMyMoney.org is an Investment and Personal Finance discussion forum site. Got some really huge plans for it too.

Woah! As soon as I decided that this is what I have to focus on (and forget about other sites till I have more resources), I started feeling so light. All of a sudden my productivity seems to increased and it’s making me feel good.

Anyway, I have to rush to work on a front page for GrowMyMoney.org and write a new article for Street Lessons. While I am at it, why not take a look at your overall business and see if anything is hampering your productivity, hence your revenues, and see if you can improve anything.

This is a viral video from Youtube that is getting a lot of attention.

I will let the author set the scene:

It was back in Oct 2005.

My wedding was about a month to go and I decided to make a memorable event for my future wife. But, I and she were working and due to preparation of wedding, I didn’t have enough budgets for expensive proposal. While I was considering for the event, I remembered what she said in the past. “Wow it would be great if I can get a chance to go in the room with full of yellow post it just like Sang Sang Plus” (Sang Sang Plus is one of the famous talk show (TV program) in Korea and they prepare a room with full of yellow post it - questions from fans to famous celebrity)

I wrote all the happy memories that I had with my wife in 5,940 post it. It took me 4 days & 5 nights to write everything and post it in the bathroom. (I tried main living room first, but, due to surface of wallpaper, I had to change the place) Once we back from honeymoon, we took all the post it off and kept it in the box until now.
