Top Digg User Supernova17 Wants Your Stories

supernova17

Supernova17 is one of the most powerful and popular users of the Digg.com community. He is currently locked in a battle with his nearest rival to reach the milestone of 1000 front page Digg stories.

We have managed to exclusively interview supernova17 (real name Karim Yergaliyev), and we will reveal how you can get your content submitted by one of Digg’s most powerful users.

In fact, Recent studies suggest that 56% of all Digg front page stories are controlled by the “top users”, and supernova17 is one of the very, very top. An incredible 42.1% of all the stories supernova17 has submitted have reached the Digg.com front page.

Karim, thanks for taking the time to speak to us at StreetLessons.com, it really is a rare treat to speak to someone like yourself.

I imagine you have been pretty busy recently in your race to reach 1000 front page stories, can you tell us a bit about this?

I’m not officially in the race, but the original one was between top user #3 msaleem and #4 zaibatsu with msaleem reaching 1000 front page story mark about two weeks ago. As of November 29th, I have 973 front page stories, I am hoping to reach 1k within next two weeks. The race itself doesn’t mean anything, but getting 1000 stories promoted to homepage has only been done by three people so far.

A massive 42.1% of all your stories have made the front page, why do you think you have had such an amazing success rate?

I’ve been a member on Digg for over two years now and have worked hard to be one of the top members. I guess people have gotten used to the types of stories I submit, there is a really good chance of getting your story promoted if you are selective on the content. I always search before submitting my stories, with over a million registered users it’s easy to overlook someone else’s submission. In addition, being the first to report the story also helps a lot, one quickly learns the specific times when most of the media sources post their new stories.

Zaibatsu is your closest rival, do you have a message for him?

I actually talked to him about our rankings on the latest episode of The Drill Down Show podcast. As I mentioned, passing zaibatsu on the top users list doesn’t mean a lot, he’s still a legendary member and I’ll continue to look up to him.
What sort of content do you generally look for on the net?

Recently I have been very interested in the entertainment category. I love movies so I try my best to submit as many good movie stories as possible to Digg. I still like general tech industry news because Digg started as a technology website and majority of the users still submit tech content.

Is there anything a website can do that would prevent you from submitting their content? e.g pop-up ads.

It’s hard to submit general product pages for various services, a lot of people email me daily seeking help. Digg is very strict on preventing spam from being submitted to the site. It’s best to submit original stories that someone writes, content that is useful to the users.

How much time do you generally spend looking for content per day?

I check my RSS feeds through out the day, on average I probably spend 2-3 hours a day looking for good stories to submit.

Perhaps our readers can help you search for quality content. What can we do to help?

Feel free to use the contact information from my Digg profile or the email address below. If I like the site, I’ll add it to my RSS reader and will look for future content.

I’d have to say my blog is more personally driven (lately), but the content is fun and my perspectives are unique and usually educational, if not inspirational. I like my last post… being happy with failure is a unique quality of mine…

Hi Dean - keep buzzing - you are bang on course for promotion to Queen!

I’m clearly missing something re Digg authorship and would appreciate enlightentment (possibly along the lines of why the Emporer seems to be wearing no clothes).

Why wouild anyone in their right mind spend 3 hours daily searching for news stories to post on Digg..?

Is the monetization paid in some currency like “Kudos”?

For the benefit of the untravelled, I should explain that Kudos is the coin of the faraway galaxy “Get_a_Life”
