CLUE - The Single Most Valuable Marketing Lesson On The Planet

Posted on 15 October 2007 by DeanHunt

We have had loads of great comments from readers who were trying to uncover the cryptic puzzle I recently left you regarding the single most valuable marketing lesson on the planet.

So today I am going to give you a clue… in fact, it is a HUGE clue!

I will be revealing the exact answer soon, so this is your last chance to have a guess.

I recently posted this:

1. Looking at someone else’s holiday photos
2. Listening to a dream somebody has had

Here is the thing… the above are two of the most BORING things that anyone can do in life!

Not many people will admit it, but I bet you all secretly agree with me.

1) Looking at someone else’s holiday photos - arrggghhhh, this is soooo boring!
2) Listening to a dream somebody has had - It might sound amazing to them, but who else cares?

So what is the moral of this? What can we take from holiday photos and dreams, and how can we apply this to our marketing to make our sites and sales more effective?

Answer coming soon.

I am an offline marketer that is new to Internet Marketing, but I would think the lesson would be the same. It is never about you, it’s about them, so talk about how it will benefit them.

Carrying on my thoughts from before, I believe we can take away from these things a deeper and more intimate knowledge and understanding of our potential clients/market, which will allow us to gear and focus our marketing in more effective ways.

We will be able to speak in a language that our market understands.

What is boring for me is not obviously boring for them. So, you have to be interested to the most boring thing, or something like “let customers decide the rules”. But I’m not sure how to phrase it in marketing words.

Does this lesson apply to reading people’s blogs? Just kidding, nailbiting competition…
