The Skin Cancer Method of Concentration
Posted on 05 September 2007 by DeanHunt

The Internet is a wild and wonderful invention! But it can also be highly distracting, especially when you work on a PC all day.
It is often all too easy to get distracted by emails, people contacting you via IM, checking your stats, reading a blog, watching a quick video etc…
Today I discovered a way of beating these distractions, a way of achieving a high level of concentration, achieving results, and returning feeling not only mentally better, but looking physically better as well.
I have dubbed this method the skin cancer method of concentration, and it goes a little something like this:
1) Find one important task – no more, no less.
2) Print out or jot down some notes related to said task.
3) Grab a pad and pen (yes, you do remember the days of using pens don’t you?)
4) Grab a chair, some sun glasses and a cold drink
5) Go outside, ideally in a quiet area with no other people. (I used my garden)
6) Start writing, even if there is nothing in your head, just start writing and the rest will follow
I must confess that this method works a lot better if you can lay at the side of your swimming pool in Madrid in 30+ degree heat. This is why I call it the “Skin Cancer Method”.
I recently did this, and I managed to do a review that would normally have taken me 2 hours. Instead, I was as focused as a ninja on valium, and I did a great piece of work in just over 35 mins.
