Tata vs. Tata
Posted on 18 January 2006 by Lord Brar
While watching CNBC India in the morning, I saw this news about a turf that is going on inside the House of Tata.
The issue is that sometimes ago Tata Indicom (CDMA telephone division) came up with a promotion stunt in which they were offering absolutely free handset insurance, from Tata AIG Insurance, which is a part of Tata Group like Tata Indicom is, to everyone who buys a connection from them.
However, finding ways to take advantage of the scheme, people committed more fraud than the company had anticipated. And, I dunno how they did not plug this clause, they were not even asking for Police FIR (First Information Report) of the loss of handset!
Without FIR, the insurance arm of the group is refusing to honour the claims. This exactly is the bone of contention between the companies. And, if no solution to this issue is found, that might mean Tata Indicom having to write off the losses.
I can’t imagine how can they do anything as stupid as not asking for a proof of loss of handset!
I haven’t been able of find any mention of this news in any print media or on the Internet. I think am going to try and contact the company itself about it and post an update as soon as I get more information.

Mistakes happen, but yeah, im surprised that the telecom group didn’t plug that loop hole earlier. Whats more surprising is that the corporate entity didn’t step in and resolve this sooner between the two sparring buisiness units.

That’s exactly what is bugging me and can’t think of a reason why?
