Google Blog Search Ranking Guide
Posted on 21 March 2007 by DeanHunt
Google’s Blog Search is a blog search engine that runs from your blogs XML feed. Basically, if your blog has a feed then you can get traffic from the Google blog search. If your blog is not included in the Blog Search, feel free to ping them.
So now you are listed in Googles blog search, but how do you rank well for your desired search terms?
Today I will share with you the methods that Google uses for its blog rankings:
* Number of times search terms appear in a blog post.
* Places where search terms appear within the document (such as title or the text within the body of the post),
* Characteristics of search terms appearing on the pages (such as font, size, color, etc.),
* Search terms may be weighted differently from other search term when multiple search terms are present.
* Proximity of search terms when multiple search terms are present may influence the IR score, and;
* Other techniques for determining the IR score for a document can also be used.
There are other certain areas you need to pay attention to if you want to rank well in Googles blog search. So grab a pen and paper because this may be the most important set of information you read all year:
Positive Factors
* Links from blogrolls (especially from high-quality blogrolls or blogrolls of “trusted bloggers”)
* Links from other sources (mail, chats)
* Using tags to categorize a post
* PageRank
* The number of feed subscriptions (from feed readers)
* Clicks in search results
Negative Factors
* Posts added at a predictable time
* Different content between the site and the feed
* The amount of duplicate content
* Using words/n-grams that appear frequently in spam blogs
* Posts that have identical size
* Linking to a single web page
* A large number of ads
* The location of ads (”the presence of ads in the recent posts part of a blog”)
