MSN Chatlog : Mattias on Stress

Posted on 11 February 2007 by John

Too MuchEver had those days when you didn’t feel like doing anything? Chances are that it might be because you’ve been working way too much.

Yes, while talking to a friend of mine, Mattias, I came to know that when you don’t feel like doing anything, it might be nature’s way of de-toxifying you.

Here, take a look at our conversation yourself –

lordishot: Yay! It’s a sunday

mattias der knödel: That’s a yay? :P

lordishot: :P not really because I am working my ass off since morning. It’s a yay because I officially have a holiday from college…

mattias der knödel: You’re working on a sunday? I generally try to keep at least one weekend day sacred.

lordishot: I wish I had that luxury as of now

mattias der knödel: Hmm, I hope you know what you are doing. We actually have a medical term here in sweden called being Extinguished that is the end result of long-term, unmanaged stress.

mattias der knödel: It’s rather scary.

lordishot: :P

mattias der knödel: Basically, what happens is that the body protects your from further stress by removing your drive. Essentially, you stop feeling like doing anything.

lordishot: jeeeeeeeeze! are you trying to scare me ;)

mattias der knödel: It’s quite common here, but strangely, the concept seems not to exists outside scandinavia.

lordishot: I am hearing it for the first time from you

lordishot: :p

lordishot: actually

mattias der knödel: Anyway, don’t sweat it too much, just remember that handling stress is not an option.

lordishot: I think I’ve experienced it a LOT of times

lordishot: in fact, until yesterday

lordishot: I was feeling something like this :|

mattias der knödel: Yeah, that’s the thing. I have experienced that myself a few times. Except extingishment is not temporary.

mattias der knödel: So when you feel like that, it’s a warning sign.

lordishot: wanna hear something really ironic?

mattias der knödel: sure

lordishot: I am right now working to build my “hobby” fitness blog

lordishot: :p

mattias der knödel: hehehehe

mattias der knödel: That’s ironic for ya!

mattias der knödel: My tip is, move non-work activities to saturday, you know, cleaning, painting, reorganizaing, throwin away garbage, meeting with friends, so that one day is as free from stress-inducing activities as possible. That gives the body some space to recover.

mattias der knödel: Anyhow, now I’m off to work. :P

Nature sure has its way of Getting Things Done.

This is a viral video from Youtube that is getting a lot of attention.

I will let the author set the scene:

It was back in Oct 2005.

My wedding was about a month to go and I decided to make a memorable event for my future wife. But, I and she were working and due to preparation of wedding, I didn’t have enough budgets for expensive proposal. While I was considering for the event, I remembered what she said in the past. “Wow it would be great if I can get a chance to go in the room with full of yellow post it just like Sang Sang Plus” (Sang Sang Plus is one of the famous talk show (TV program) in Korea and they prepare a room with full of yellow post it – questions from fans to famous celebrity)

I wrote all the happy memories that I had with my wife in 5,940 post it. It took me 4 days & 5 nights to write everything and post it in the bathroom. (I tried main living room first, but, due to surface of wallpaper, I had to change the place) Once we back from honeymoon, we took all the post it off and kept it in the box until now.
