How firefox screwed me up today and ServInt managed to save my ass.

FireFox screwed it up for me today. I mean it literally screwed it up. That f*cken’ memory leak issue totally screwed it up for me and I am damn mad. Most probably Opera is gonna get a brand new user today.
Here is what happened — Remember that long post about how to start your own arcade site? So I sold some sponsorships on this guide and, to fill the order, I had to make some edits to the article.
I write nearly all of my blogs posts online and use GMail as my word editor (yeah yeah I know) to do so. While I am writing the post, I save it as a draft. Once it is published, I discard the draft.
Back to topic — I opened up that post and made the changes. However, I didn’t save it cos something important popped up in my mind and went to finish it.
Ok done! Time to save the post and send the advertiser a “mission-accomplished” report.
After I was done writing a completion report, i just went to preview the page.
Wow! Half of the article had just disappeared. WOW!!!! Simply wow!
I didn’t know what to do and I had no idea what had happened. And worst of all, I could not find a backup ( I take weekly backups and didn’t even have the drafts as backup). Heck! I was reading myself to write the whole report again.
Fortunately, ServInt maintains several restore points for the backup the take and I was lucky enough to find a restore point for 24th. However, this one single issue nearly consumed the whole of my day today.
And guess the problem? FireFox memory bug. Yeah, I found the problem and was able to replicate it.
If the textfield of a form has a large amount of text (as that post had) and you switch tabs, then when you switch back to the original tab, a big portion of that text just disappears. O.o
In total, FireFix managed to literally screw me up (man! how would I have faced that advertiser) but ServInt managed to save my ass.
Lessons – 1. Make daily backups (automate it). 2. See if Opera works better than FireFox.
