Not impressed with phpLinkDirectory
Posted on 16 July 2006 by John
I was in market for a link directory and the one which was recommended over and over again was phpLinkDirectory. I mean I literally read zillions of testimonials touting it and the sheer number of flipped-for-seo directories using it.
So yesterday I took the leap and shelled $25 for a copy to test-drive it.
Ugh! I am not really impressed at all.
#1. One of the feature highlights — visual confirmation — doesn’t work at all. I must have tried it out 10 times and everytime it kept giving me an invalid code. I got so fedup with it that I disabled it.
#2. Editing the templates is a real pain in ass. Honestly. There isn’t anything by the name of internal documentation. For last hour or so I’ve been trying to find out how I can customize the display of featured links.
And best of all, if I need any support — I need to pay $10 extra for it.
That’s bad. I don’t mind paying if the product is right but the quality of coding here doesn’t look that good to me.
So, I am going to try and ask David if he could refund me my money as I am not satisfied with the product.
If he knows even iota of good customer relationship management then he would not hesitate returning my money (here’s a hat tip — such kind of gestures build long-term relationships).
However, if he turns out to be “now I got your money and I don’t care if you like my stuff or not but I ain’t giving you a penny back” then I would not mind moving on as it is just $25 and not really worth wasting a second thought on.
Let’s see! But for now I am off to start working on a custom solution for my directory.
Edit: Just like I was expecting, I ain’t getting any refund.
