Is freelance copywriting a bad job?

Bob Bly, asked on his blog —
I have one question for you: would you advise a teenager today to pursue copywriting as a profession? Why or why not?
My answer — Any job in which the returns depend on the amount of effort you put in is bad. Your assets should make you money while you are on a beach in Bahama.
Ability to do good copywriting is an asset. Words sell. And it is very much possible to put your sites on autopilot. Your words are your salespeople.
But being a freelance copywriter? Well, not something I would take up as a profession.
