Research on how people search!

While reading responses to a thread I discussed about in another post ( Is SEO over-rated?), I came across a link to BBC’s site about a recently released research about how people search.
According to a survey conducted by Jupiter Research and marketing firm iProspect, most people using a search engine expect to find what they are looking for on the first page of results and at most, people will go through three pages of results before giving up.
62% of those surveyed clicked on a result on the first page — which is up from 48% in 2002 — and about 90% of people clicked on a link in these pages, up from 81% in 2002.
Another point of interest is that 41% of consumers changed engines or their search term if they did not find what they were searching for on the first page. Now that’s another reason not to discount Yahoo!, MSN and ASK in your SEO efforts.
The survey also found that one-third of users linked companies in the first page of results with top brands.
